Waiting Game
Waiting Game
I wait for you as you navigate the world,
Holding the camera as you take your first steps,
Cheering you on as you win your first race.
I wait for you at every match,
At every freezing hockey practice,
Shivering on the sticky stands of the gymnasium.
I wait for you as you mope in your room,
Both of us angry at each other for one reason or another,
Heating and reheating your dinner in the microwave.
I wait for you, and I always will.
And one day,
When I cannot walk as fast,
When I struggle to take your hand,
You’ll be waiting for me.
